Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants Odds, Spread, Preview: NFL Week 4 Predictions

Chicago Bears vs. New York Giants Week 4 matchup preview and current betting lines

The Bears and Giants meet up in New York for a battle of surprising 2-1 teams. Last season the two teams had failed campaigns as New York went 3-14 while Chicago went 6-11. Both teams fired their head coaches. The Giants hired former Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and the Bears brought in Indianapolis defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

Chicago is coming off a 23-20 win over the Texans and New York will attempt to return to winning ways after losing 23-16 against its divisional rival Dallas. Both organizations will come out hungry in hopes of a 3-1 start and the ability to be near the top of their respective divisions.

The Bears leaned heavily on backup running back Khalil Herbert in their triumph after starter David Montgomery exited the game due to injury. Herbert scored both of Chicago’s touchdowns and ran for 157 yards on 20 carries (7.9 yards per tote). The contest was close and both teams traded blows before Cairo Santos made a 30-yard field goal as time expired to secure the victory.

Giants’ quarterback Daniel Jones struggled at home against Dallas going 20-of-37 for 196 yards and an interception. The pick was thrown on a potentially game-tying final drive. Despite starting 2-0, New York is 21st in total offense with an average of 331.7 yards per game. Its two wins came against Tennessee and Carolina (both 1-2).

The current moneyline odds for this contest on BetMGM Sportsbook are Chicago (+130) vs. New York (-154). The Giants are set as a 3-point favorite on the spread at -105 odds.

Players to watch in the Chicago vs. New York contest

Bears

Darnell Mooney: Chicago’s WR1 hasn’t been able to post big numbers as many experts thought he would this season. The coaching staff’s lack of confidence in Justin Fields, along with his poor play, have been the primary reasons. Through three games, Mooney has four receptions for 27 yards. Last year, Mooney had 1,055 yards off of 81 catches and found the end zone five times.

Giants

Saquon Barkley: The 2018 No. 2 overall pick is back. Barkley has the second most rushing yards of any back in the league with 317 and is averaging six yards per carry. Against Dallas, Barkley scored a rushing touchdown and recorded 126 total yards, and averaged 11.3 yards per reception. Question marks will remain regarding if he can stay healthy but so far he’s looked sharp.

ESTNN is providing wagerers with two free selections for this game.

Chicago vs New York Spread: New York -3 @ -105

New York hasn’t played extremely well but is facing a Bears offense that has been putrid, especially at the quarterback position. Justin Fields is only completing 51.1% of his passes and has thrown for just 297 yards in the first three games (ranks last in the NFL). Fields’ quarterback rating is a measly 23.2 which is 31st in the league out of 32 quarterbacks.

Against the 30th-ranked Houston defense, Fields went 8-of-17 for 106 yards and threw two picks. It’ll be a much more difficult matchup against the Giants’ 10th-ranked passing defense.

The Giants will be without their leading receiver Sterling Shepard after he suffered a season-ending torn ACL on the team’s final drive versus Dallas. The receiver room will need to step up and Daboll will have to find a way to incorporate Kadarius Toney and Darius Slayton into the offense. Richie James will move up into the WR1 position. He is second on the team in receiving yards with 146 and has recorded 14 catches (most on the team). Barkley is third with 97 receiving yards.

Jones is 28th in the league with 560 passing yards and 27th in total QBR (34.1). The former Duke Blue Devil has done well in the turnover category with only two interceptions.

Chicago is 1-4 against the spread in its last five road games and 2-6 ATS in its eight previous meetings with New York. We believe at ESTNN that Fields’ poor play will doom the Bears and they will fail to cover the spread. Our pick is to take the Giants (-3) on BetMGM’s sportsbook at -105 odds.

Bears vs. Giants odds: Justin Fields over 0.5 interceptions @ -165

Justin Fields has thrown at least one interception in every game this season and had two last week against Houston. The Ohio State product has tossed at least one pick in eight of his last 10 appearances. During that span, Fields has 12 interceptions with three of those being multi-pick games.

At -165 odds, the probability of him throwing an interception is just too high to pass up on. Our advice at ESTNN is to take the over 0.5 interceptions on BetRivers at -165 odds.
