Fortnite Patch v18.40: Naruto Crossover, Mech Suit Funding, Shopping Carts Return & More

ESTNN breaks down Fortnite patch v18.40 and everything included.

Perhaps the last update of Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 8 arrived early this morning with a lot to offer. For one, patch v18.40 introduced the Fortnite x Naruto Shippuden collaboration that fans have waited for many months. The crossover was so significant; we covered it in-depth in another article.

The patch itself certainly took a backseat to the exciting collaboration, but there are still some items worth noting. Today, ESTNN dives into patch v18.40 and everything that it features.

Return of the Mech Suits

Fortnite’s infamous B.R.U.T.E. mech suits first introduced in Chapter 1 - Season X will return soon. While many never thought this day would arrive, Epic Games has implemented a funding effort to resurrect mech suits. However, these aren’t your typical mech suits of old. The Salvaged B.R.U.T.E. is a lite version of the once-mighty vehicle.

It has a “stripped down armor hull with no overshield” but still likely packs a punch. Several funding stations are open across the Island, and it will take a lot of gold to bring this back into action. Nonetheless, they are designed to help players fight against Season 8’s antagonist—The Cube Queen. Mechs will not appear in competitive modes.

Shopping Carts are Back

Shopping Carts have returned to Battle Royale mode for the first time since Chapter 1 - Season 8. This classic vehicle has remained a staple in Fortnite’s history after releasing Chapter 1 - Season 4. Now, players have the chance to use them on an entirely new map and landscape. You can find Shopping Carts in areas such as Holly Hedges and Retail Row but not in competitive modes.

Other Patch v18.40 Notes

  • The Cube Queen continues to corrupt the Island as The Convergence takes on a new shape.
  • Initial game mode selection screen removed.
  • Epic has added Save the World to the “By Epic” section in the “Discovery” menu.
  • Naruto Paper Bomb Kunai is not available in competitive modes.

Bug Fixes

Here is a list of bugs addressed in patch v18.40:

  • Grapplers have returned to Team Rumble and Battle Lab.
  • Collection book entries can now be viewed when using Performance Mode.
  • Cars will no longer vanish or move when entering or exiting.

That should cover everything you need to know about Fortnite patch v18.40. Leakers are calling this the final update of Season 8. There’s uncertainty about what lies beyond this season, but be sure to check back here for more on that.
