Fortnite's first patch of Chapter 2 - Season 5, dubbed Operation Snowdown, has arrived.
Many thought this update meant the beginning of the annual Winterfest, formerly known as the 14 Days of Fortnite. That is the case; however, Epic renamed the event to "Operation Snowdown." The latest update saw Epic Games introduce two new weapons and finally grant an in-game option to disable pre-edits. Patch v15.10 also benefited console players with a 120 FPS Mode, which most believed would be available at launch. Some other exciting leaks from the update revealed future cosmetic packs, skins, emotes and more!
Epic Games added two new Exotic weapons in Fortnite's latest update. The first is a Dragon Breath Sniper, which acts similarly to the Dragon Breath Shotgun, also introduced this season. A bullet fired from the new sniper will engulf a player and surrounding structures in flames. You can buy the new sniper from the Blaze Renegade Raider NPC at Timber Tent, located south of Sweaty Sands. Here's a video of the new rifle in action.
The Cowboy Repeater Rifle, which "combines a rapid shooting style with dead-eye accuracy," is in the standard loot pool. It functions similar to the Hunting Rifle from past seasons.
Fortnite players on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 can now experience the game at 120 frames per second (FPS). This feature was one of the driving forces behind purchasing a next-generation console. The game already looked excellent on 60 FPS, so the 120 FPS Mode will only improve on that. Those looking to utilize this option can do so from the "Video" tab in settings.
After three long years, Epic Games introduced an option to disable pre-edits. Now, players looking to edit and build quickly do not have to worry that pre-edits will slow them down. Although the setting does not appear to fulfill its purpose, perhaps there will be other uses for it down the line. Several players are reporting that pre-edits are still possible when you are building fast.
Like the 2020 breakout game, Among Us, the "Spy Within" LTM tasks players with locating an imposter amongst a small group. The description reads, "Players can call meetings in-game when they discover an eliminated player or if they are suspicious of someone. Players cannot voice chat unless they are in a meeting."
The previously revealed Snowmando and Frost Squad skins are attainable via Operation Snowdown challenges. Upon completion, both skins will be available in your in-game locker. ShiinaBR also revealed all of the new winter-themed skins that will appear over the next few weeks, including Cozy Jonesy and Snowbell.
Patch v15.10 revealed more than just the two winter-themed skins that many have known about for weeks. Epic Games worked with DC Comics to create a set themed to its Green Arrow character. HYPEX confirmed the entire pack, which will release at a later date. Additionally, Marvel's Black Panther will receive his own in-game emote, named 'Wakanda Forever.'
