Fortnite’s newest season is here.
Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 has finally arrived after what was the longest time between updates in the game’s three year history. The Fortnite Blackout and subsequent Chapter 2 announcement took place on October 14th. Since then, Epic Games made minimal changes to the game. Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2, officially released on February 20th, and we’ve gathered all pertinent information related to what has changed thus far in the game.
Reddit user, hostadam, did everyone a favor by compiling a list of patch notes. Epic Games, for an unknown reason, decided not to release their patch notes for this new season. Here is what we know so far according to the crowd-sourced patch notes:
First and foremost, Spike Traps are no longer in Fortnite. This change will likely coincide with an audible sigh of relief, considering how much the competitive community disliked them. Players will have a much more difficult time playing defense in a one-by-one structure due to this. The removal of the Bolt Action Sniper Rifle is likely due to the addition of the Suppressed Sniper Rifle and the Heavy Sniper Rifle.
Epic Games made some surprising decisions in what to bring out of the vault in Chapter 2, Season 2. Some of these weapons, mainly the Drum Gun, Heavy Sniper Rifle and Minigun, will allow an onslaught on offense. We’ve seen in the past that all three weapons are viable in terms of breaking through builds and eliminating opposing players. From a competitive and even casual perspective, the meta will significantly change as we move deeper into the new season.
Many of these items have Mythic rarities, meaning they’re difficult to find, but they do drop when eliminating NPCs at each new location on the map. It’s also worth noting that all of these new weapons and items exist in Arena. Epic Games delighted us with some unique choices for Season 2, but it’s difficult to predict how these changes will affect the overall experience.
Chapter 2, Season 2, brought some new locations to the current Fortnite: Battle Royale map as well. We’ve yet to get a firm grasp on each area, but there are new places to explore nonetheless. A new mechanic exists in Fortnite as well, which allows players the option to teleport through toilets. The opportunity to throw consumable items is now available as well to make for a more efficient option instead of dropping them out of your inventory.
We are actively working on confirming all of the changes that have come along with Chapter 2, Season 2. The lack of patch notes is undoubtedly a setback, but we will continue keeping an eye out for the alterations and report back our findings.
