Let’s check out what's happening with Bounty Hunter since the newest patch arrived.

Patch 7.25 changed a lot of things and buffed a lot of the “forgotten” heroes. One of those heroes was Bounty Hunter, who now has an entirely new Aghanim’s Scepter effect.

So, now that a couple of days have passed since it was first released, let’s take a look at how is the hero performing in the current meta.

What happened to the pick and win rating of the hero?

The most secure way of telling whether some changes were good or not is to check the pick and win rating of the hero. Judging from what we saw on DotaBuff, Bounty Hunter’s pick rate dropped by around one and a half percent since the changes. However, his win rating is up by nearly a percentage, which means that the changes were for the better. At the time of writing this article, BH has around 54% win rating and a 12% pick rate.

Unfortunately, there is still one problem with this hero and that’s his position. In order to shine, Bounty Hunter has to have a very strong early game. It is possible to achieve that from the role of a position four, however, in most cases, this doesn’t happen. So, if you wish to unleash his full potential, you have to play as a core.

Even though there were some attempts for a mid-lane BH, it didn’t work. As a result, the vast majority of players who want to play with him as a core are going to the offlane. However, this brings up another problem - BH isn’t really the best offlaner. Sure, he can lane against a weak lane but he can easily be crushed, which means that the enemy carry will essentially have a free lane.

Is the Aghanim’s Upgrade worth it?

Everyone was so hyped from the changes, which was expected. However, we tend to see a lot of players rushing this item straight away, which might not be the best decision.

Sure,  the Agh’s upgrade is good because you can deal a lot of damage and steal gold really fast. Nevertheless, when you prioritize it, you won’t be able to get good timings on other essential items, such as Guardian’s Greeves, Force Staff, and so soon.

So, at the end of the day, buying an Aghanim’s Scepter on BH is definitely worth it. However, it has to be done after you buy all of the necessary items that make Bounty Hunter useful in the first place. Sure, it is very tempting to Rush for the Aghs but it’s just not worth it.

What’s next for this hero?

Unfortunately, patch 7.25 came at a time when the Dota 2 DPC season got pretty much canceled. We thought that the COVID-19 outbreak won't affect the Dota 2 stage, but that didn't happen.

The good news is that some of the LAN events were transformed into online ones, so we will be able to watch the best Dota 2 teams in the world again. It will be pretty interesting to see what will happen when they start picking BH. Needless to say, this will definitely have an effect on PUB games.

Speaking of online tournaments, be sure to watch ESL ONE Los Angeles. As you’ve probably heard by now, this event was rescheduled and it will now be held online. Despite that, we will still get to see some of the best teams in the world.

The event begins on the 28th of March, so definitely don’t miss it, especially if you’re looking for thing to do in a lock down.
