Dota 2: Patch 7.26 Changes the Game

The latest Dota 2 update just dropped, we take a look at what's new.

We've seen a couple of updates since the beginning of the COVID-19 situation. The first big change to the game was patch 7.25, where we saw a lot of hero changes. Now, just a few weeks later, Valve decided to release the first part of its successor. We refer to it as the first part because this update only changes gameplay aspects.

According to the official information, we should expect a new update soon that will cover the hero and item changes. Until then, let’s take a look and see what’s new in this patch.

Changes to attributes

A huge change first up. The Attributes in Dota 2 no longer provide movement speed, spell amplification, and magic resistance.

It was about time! Even though some players probably won’t agree, Dota 2 changes a lot when these aspects of the game were added. In fact, some people even accused Valve of copying Riot Games in this regard.

Even though it might not seem as much, we believe that the removal of these stats will completely change the way we play. For example, nearly all core heroes emphasized a lot on getting as many stats as possible. As a result, you can often see items like an Eye of Skadi, a Heart of Tarrasque, and so on. However, now that these stats bonuses are no longer active, we might see a lot of new item builds.

10% reduction to gold bounties and creeps

The next significant change in Dota 2 affects the economy of the game. Builds, lane creeps, neutral and heroes gold bounties are reduced by ten percent.

We can’t really say that we’re surprised by the gold bounty reduction because the game right now is just way too fast.

You can literally lose in 20 minutes if you die a few times in the laning stage. Some heroes, such as Lycan and Visage, for example, can quickly buy costless items and push your base. Needless to say, there is not much you can do about it because you won’t have any items.

Nevertheless, now that we will receive ten percent less gold for pretty much anything, the game should be slower. It seems like Valve is trying to bring back the classic 40 minutes Dota 2 games that we’re used to. Whether or not this will happen is just a matter of time.

50% kill streak gold reduction

The last change that 7.26 added to Dota 2 is another gold restriction. However, this one is all about the streaks that tend to give an absolutely insane amount of gold.

We can’t really say that we’re surprised by this because this was one of the most annoying updates that took place in Dota 2. Ever since this feature was introduced, teams could make a comeback by taking advantage of just one mistake.

Those of you who’ve been playing long enough probably remember that this used to be even more broken. You could literally get up to 2000 gold for a single streak, which made Valve reduce the bounty. However, it seems like this was not enough, considering the 50 percent nerf that they add in this patch.
