Valve has released a patch for Counterstrike: Global Offensive that finally nerfs the AUG and celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Counterstrike.

Last night, Valve pushed a patch to Counterstrike that made some fun changes to Dust 2 in competitive matchmaking and adjusted the AUG CT-side rifle. Let’s break them down.

Happy Birthday, Counterstrike!

First off, Valve has decided to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Counterstrike by playing with the way Dust 2 gets queued up for players in the Casual Dust 2 Map Group. A retro version of the fan favorite map is now available in the Group, complete with dated graphics and old boxes. Keep Calm and Rush B!

Counterstrike: Chicken Capsule

Additionally, there’s a brand-new sticker capsule available from the in-game store – The Chicken Capsule. As players might assume, this capsule is focused around CT and T Chickens duking it out for the win. Not to mention the sticker’s creator, Slid3, filled almost every sticker with “Dick Stacy” level of puns. Now, on to the big stuff.

The AUG

After much ado about the power of the CT rifle, Valve has nerfed the AUG in two ways. Firstly, they’ve lowered the rate of fire of the rifle. This is a serious change. A lower rate of fire means that T players have more time to acquire their target and get that essential AK headshot before the AUG takes them out.

That’s not all, though. Valve also increased the inaccuracy when firing with the AUG while unscoped, meaning that viewers will probably see less AUG multikills during both pro matches and matches of their own.

Danger Zone

It wouldn’t be a Counterstrike patch in 2019 without some changes and bug fixes to Danger Zone, and this patch is no different. The patch notes mention a fix for item duplication, as well as two warmup changes: Players in warmup will now spawn closer to their teammates and will spawn with a random pistol.
