Apex Legends News: Patch 1.1.1 Release and Breakdown

Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1 hit today, and ESTNN is here to break down all of the changes included in the patch. We’ve got buffs to Gibraltar and Caustic, as well as a few weapon balance changes. Unfortunately, there are no fixes for several common complaints circulating in the Apex Legends circles, like poor hit registration and the so-called slow-mo servers. That said, this patch is full of details, so let’s dive right in.


Gibraltar and Caustic Buffs

Right off the bat, it looks like Respawn still isn’t happy with how the two big boys in Apex Legends, Caustic and Gibraltar, are playing at the moment. To help buff them up, Respawn has added a built-in damage reduction to both of their passives. As Patch 1.1.1, both Caustic and Gibraltar will now have Fortified added to their passives, translating into a 10% damage reduction from all incoming fire. Respawn has clearly done this to mitigate the characters comparatively large hitboxes.

In addition to Fortified, there are also some character specific buffs for both Caustic and Gibraltar. Caustic is getting a buff to the deployment range on his ultimate. In other words, you can throw it about five meters further. While not a huge buff in and of itself, Caustic’s gas damage has also been increased by 3 per tick, up from 1 damage per tick.

On the other hand, Gibraltar’s Gun Shield now has 75 health, up from 50. This change, along with his new passive, should help Gibraltar survive a little longer in engagements. Respawn has mentioned that they will be watching these changes closely, and may either buff or nerf the Fortified passive depending on how it performs.

CAUSTIC:

  • FortifiedPassive Perk added: reduces damage taken by 10%
  • Gas Damage per tick increased: 1 -> 4
  • Ultimate Throw distance increased: 28 meters -> 33 meters

GIBRALTAR:

  • FortifiedPassive Perk added: reduces damage taken by 10%
  • Gun Shield health increased: 50 -> 75

Weapon Balance Changes – Snipers/DMRs, Wingman, Spitfire

Weapons changes are up next, and it looks Respawn has buffed the Sniper/DMR category to make the weapons more usable at longer ranges.

G7 Scout, Triple Take, Longbow DMR

  • G7 SCOUT / TRIPLE TAKE / LONGBOW DMR
    • Lowered leg shot damage reduction: 25% -> 10%
    • Reduced base weapon sway by about 33%
    • Reduced base sway speed by about 25%
  • LONGBOW DMR
    • Increased fire rate 1.2 -> 1.6
    • Increased magazine size
      • Base mag increased: 5 -> 6 rounds
      • Common mag extender increased: 6 -> 8 rounds
      • Rare mag extender increased: 8 -> 10 rounds
      • Epic mag extender increased: 10 -> 12 rounds

 

Respawn says that these changes are meant to counteract some of the movement abilities that the Legends have, meaning that it will be easier to take down a target from range.

HAVOC

We’ve also got a Havoc buff designed to pressure players to find Energy ammo instead of focusing on finding attachments. To this end, Respawn has increased damage from the rifle’s Charged Shot at both short and long ranges and increased the damage falloff of the weapon. This means that the Havoc will do more damage no matter what range players decide to utilize the weapon.

  • Increased base magazine size: 25 -> 32 rounds
  • Charge Beam
    • Reduced cost per shot: 5 -> 4
    • Increased close range damage: 55 -> 60
    • Increased damage at range: 45 -> 50
    • Close range damage falloff increased: 35m -> 75m
    • Ranged damage falloff increased: 75m -> 125m

WINGMAN

Everyone’s favorite handcannon has gotten another nerf, this time to its magazine size. Not only will the Wingman hold fewer bullets by default, but the max amount of bullets that it can hold is reduced to 10, even with an epic-rarity magazine.

 

  • Reduced magazine size
    • Base mag reduced: 6 -> 4 rounds
    • Common mag extender reduced: 8 -> 6 rounds
    • Rare mag extender reduced: 9 -> 8 rounds
    • Epic mag extender reduced: 12 -> 10 rounds

 

SPITFIRE

Finally, in the weapon column, Respawn has slightly nerfed the Spitfire heavy machinegun. These nerfs mainly target the magazine size of the weapon, both on the default and extended magazines. Additionally, the Spitfire now does two less damage, bringing the weapon from 20 damage per bullet down to 18.

 

  • Reduced base damage: 20 -> 18
  • Magazine extender attachments reduced
    • Common mag extender reduced: 45 -> 40 rounds
    • Rare mag extender reduced: 55 -> 45 rounds
    • Epic mag extender reduced: 60 -> 55 rounds

Gold Weapons

A quick note about Gold Weapon spawns. Respawn has changed some of the attachments that gold weapons spawn with. Check them out below.

 ADJUSTMENTS TO GOLD WEAPON ATTACHMENTS:

  • Gold Havoc
    • Now has Turbocharger
    • Now has 1x-2x variable holo site
  • Gold R301
    • Now has 1x-2x variable holo site
  • Gold Wingman
    • Now has digital threat

 

Looks like I’ll actually pick up a gold R301 now since it has a decent sight on it!


Additional Changes

Ship Speed Increased by 50%

There is one more additional changes that shouldn’t change the field of play much but is still a welcome adjustment. Respawn has increased the dropship speed by about 50%, meaning that players who decide to drop later won’t spend so much time flying across King’s Canyon.

Bonus XP Event

Finally, Respawn has decided to honor the Gibraltar and Caustic buffs by adding a special Bonux XP Event.

“In honor of Thicc-boi buffs, we’re going to be running a bonus Battle Pass XP event. From approximately 10AM PST 4/16 through approximately 10AM PST 4/18, your first Top 5 of the day (your squad places 5th or better in a match) will grant you 1 full bonus Battle Pass Level (29,500 BPP), up to a max of level 110. You can earn this once per day.”
